Hayden

My name is Hayden. I am 13 years old, and I began acting with the New England Youth Theatre in the summer of 2005, when I was 12 years old, with the Melodrama Camp. Although I didn't get a chance to continue acting until a whole year later, in the Melodrama of 2006, I was greatly excited by the new potential that the Theatre provided for me, with all of its possible classes and shows. Since my first show, I have been involved in the six following performances: Deadwood Dick, Murder By Indecision, Love's Labours Lost (as a costumer), The Miracle Worker(which I stage managed, as well as had a small role in), Oliver(which again I returned to costume), The Blind King and the Sleeping Queen, and Scapin(as stage manager). In addition, I helped out with a handful of Mentor activities such as the Pirate Car Wash and the Groundhog Cabaret. Initially, when I first began acting, I thought that I would love to try my hand at a variety of theatre arts, other than just acting. Hence, I decided to attempt costuming and stage managing, the latter being a much more time consuming and interesting experience. For me, I guess that my favorite form of involvement varies, depending on each individual production.
What got me interested in acting in general, was seeing many of the shows here at NEYT, which pushed me to be in our school plays. As mediocre as they may seem, it was a huge step for me to even get up on stage, let alone sing! This was followed by my mom seeing some advertisements for the Melodrama Camp, and helping me to decide to participate in it. From there, my involvement with the Theatre snowballed, and I hope for it to continue doing so, all the way up until I graduate in 2011.
During the summer I became a Mentor, and am currently the Agenda Manager on the Steering Commity of the Mentor group(a position that I share with my acquaintance, and friend, Riley Goodemote), and hope to become much more involved within NEYT as time progresses. Working with this place has had such an effect on the way that I think, act, and treat others, and also empathizing with people from all different backgrounds has been easier for me. Being involved with the theatre has also aided me in achieving my academic goals(I am a straight-A student), and in taking an interest in my schoolwork and appreciating my learning experience. When I'm not at the Theatre, my other hobbies include music(I play the trumpet, the piano, and the baritone horn), reading and writing, fencing, and partaking in other extracurricular academic activities such as Math Counts, Oddessy Choral Group, and Jazz Band.
