When I tell people that I do theatre at a place called New Enlgand Youth Theater there response in always the same. Thy rejistor what I just said and imidiatly their mind starts thinking of school plays or comunity theater. And they smile and nod in a polite way saying "thats nice." or "that sounds fun"
So ofcourse I try to explain that NEYT isnt an ordinary youth theater and that its more of a professional theater and the actors just happen to be kids. But I try to sound modest and end up makeing it sound stuck up and, well, just terrible. So really the only way you can truly understand NEYT is through seeing a show or being in a show or even a class. Because NEYT is more then just a youth theater its a home and a family. And when I say that you may laugh and think that is one of the most cliche things I'v ever read. But theres no way around it, and really its the only way to describe NEYT.
Plays I've been in (on the old stage)
1. The poet/pirate, Dandy in Jolly Roger and the Pirate Queen
2. Amryilis in the 30 person cast of the musical Music Man
3. Mr. Gruff and a siren in the Stearns/Amidon musical, Princess Willow and the King of Theives
